Working Visit of the Hon. Dato’ Seri Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia to France from 5 -8 July 2009
The Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato’ Seri Khaled Nordin arrived in Paris on Sunday, 5 July 2009 for a 4-day working visit to France.
The Hon. Minister was in Paris to attend the two-day World Conference on Higher Education at the UNESCO Headquarters. The Conference, under the theme of “The New Dynamics of Higher Education and Research for Societal Change and Development”, was attended by 1000 participants from 148 countries.
In addition to attending the Conference at the UNESCO, the Hon. Minister also took the opportunity to meet with Malaysian students studying in and around Paris during a dinner on Sunday, 5 July 2009. The dinner was also attended by H.E. Dato’ S. Thanarajasingam, Ambassador of Malaysia to France and Embassy officials.
On Monday, 6th July, the Hon. Minister called on the Director General of UNESCO, Mr. Koiichiro Matsuura and had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Higher Education of Sudan, H.E. Peter Adonk Niyaba. The following day on 7th July, the Hon. Minister met the Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of China, H.E. Zhou Ji.
On Thursday 7th July, the Hon. Minister also visited the Embassy of Malaysia and met the Malaysian Ambassador to France together with the heads of Malaysian agencies based in Paris. He informed them of the developments pertaining to higher education, in particular the role which Malaysian diplomatic missions should play in promoting Malaysia as an educational hub.
After the meeting, the Hon. Minister visited the prestigious School of Fine Arts (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts) and met with Mr. Henri-Claude Cousseau, the Director of the School. They agreed to renew programmes involving Beaux Arts and relevant institutions in Malaysia. During the visit too, the Hon. Minister also witnessed the handing over of an art work by Malaysian artist, Mr. Ch’ng Huck Theng to Ecole des Beaux Arts.
The Hon. Minister and his delegation were hosted to a dinner by H.E. Ambassador Dato’ S. Thanarajasingam and his spouse, Datin Dr. Siradha Iyer at Rumah Malaysia on Tuesday, 7 July 2009.
The Minister left Paris on Wednesday, 08 July 2009.
